Learn to Curl Classes – October 2013

The PCC is closed until our season resumes in October. We will be holding instructional curling classes on four consecutive Sundays in October/November. Please check our website at the beginning of August for updated information on how to register, and visit our Curling Class page for general information about these classes. Silver at 2013 US Mixed Nationals

Philadelphia Curling Club member Mike Graziano and his fellow teammates on Team Wisconsin won the silver medal at the US Mixed National Curling Championships held from 16 to 23 March 2013 at the Willmar Curling Club in Willmar, Minnesota.  Mike was the second on Team Wisconsin, along with his teammates: Sean Murray (skip); Heather Betzhold (vice), and Paige Caulum (lead). Congratulations Mike!

Team USA finishes 4th at 2013 Women’s Worlds

Sarah Anderson of Philadelphia Curling Club and her teammates on Team USA finished 4th at the 2013 World Women’s Curling Championships held in Riga, Latvia from 16-24 March 2013.  Team USA curled very well at the event.  Sarah was the alternate on Team USA with her teammates: Erika Brown (skip), Debbie McCormick (vice), Jessica Schultz (second), and Ann Swisshelm (lead).  Congratulations Sarah and Team USA!

Philadelphia wins McKay-Douglas International

The McKay-Douglas International is a men’s bonspiel tournament hosted by the Ardsley Curling Club in Ardsley-on-Hudson, NY. This year’s event was contested from 23-26 February 2013.  Three Philadelphia teams competed in the event with great results, including winning the First and Sixth events, and a runner-up in the Second event.  The overall champions of the event were skipped by Bruce Clouser, vice Brian Dudt, second Daniel Dudt, and lead Ken Seiverd.  Congratulations too all our teams on a great showing as one of the stronger men’s competitions!

6th Annual Philadelphia CURL-A-THON

The 6th Annual Philadelphia CURL-A-THON will be hosted at the Philadelphia CC from Friday March 8th at 6 PM until Saturday March 9th at 11 PM.   To those who do not know about the event, the Curl-a-Thon, is a fundraiser put on by Philadelphia Curling Club to raise funds for one of our members, Jeff Harris, who suffered a life changing event causing him to be confined to a wheelchair.  Jeff has been a member of our club since 1997.  The event is open to everyone (friends, family, strangers etc.), there will be food, drinks, and curling going on from 6pm Friday to 10 pm+ Saturday.  Come and enjoy the sun with this years Luau Theme! Philadelphia Wins 4th Event at Kayser 5 & Under Mixed Championship

Philadelphia Curling Club team won the Fourth Event at the Kayser 5 and Under Mixed Championship held at Utica Curling Club from 14 to 17 February 2013.  The Philadelphia team was skipped by Bryan Beck, vice Katie Arcidiacono, second Dan Cooper and lead Kristen Beck.  Congratulations!

2013 USA Curling Nationals — Congratulations Team Anderson

Philadelphia Curling Club’s Team Anderson qualified for the 2013 USA Curling National Championships which was held February 9-16, 2013 at the Cornerstone Ice Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Team Anderson includes Sarah Anderson, Courtney Anderson-Slata, Katie Dubberstein, Taylor Anderson, and coach Wayne Anderson. The team made all of us here in Philadelphia Curling Club extremely proud!

2013 Junior Nationals — Congratulations Team Pennsylvania-Men & Team Pennsylvania-Women

The 2013 USA Curling Junior National Championships was held from January 26 until February 2, 2013 at Broomstones Curling Club in Wayland, MA.  Pennsylvania had two teams, with one in the men’s and one in the women’s competition skipped out of Philadelphia Curling Club.  Both teams qualified for the playoffs after the round robin of 10-teams.  Team Pennsylvania for the men’s side of the competition finished 3rd overall and received a bronze medal.  For the women’s competition, Team Pennsylvania ended the competition in 4th place.

Pennsylvania Qualifies for 2013 USA Curling National Championships

Congratulations to Team Anderson from the Philadelphia Curling Club for qualifying for Women’s US Curling Nationals.  The team qualified during the US Women’s Challenge round hosted by the Granite Curling Club in Seattle, Washington from January 17 to 20, 2013.  A total of 14 teams were vying for 6 bids to Nationals.  Team Anderson includes Sarah Anderson, Courtney Anderson-Slata, Katie Dubberstein, Taylor Anderson, and coach Wayne Anderson.  They will be curling as Team Pennsylvania at the 2013 USA Curling National Championships which will be held February 9-16, 2013 at the Cornerstone Ice Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Philadelphia wins Plainfield Thrifty Bonspiel

Philadelphia Curling Club won the Thrifty Bonspiel First Event – Jean Marc Fluet Medal hosted by the Plainfield Curling Club.  The team was skipped by Jay Rusek, with vice Derek Tomlinson, second Ken Seiverd and lead Eric Ruth.
