The 6th Annual Philadelphia CURL-A-THON will be hosted at the Philadelphia CC from Friday March 8th at 6 PM until Saturday March 9th at 11 PM. To those who do not know about the event, the Curl-a-Thon, is a fundraiser put on by Philadelphia Curling Club to raise funds for one of our members, Jeff Harris, who suffered a life changing event causing him to be confined to a wheelchair. Jeff has been a member of our club since 1997. The event is open to everyone (friends, family, strangers etc.), there will be food, drinks, and curling going on from 6pm Friday to 10 pm+ Saturday. Come and enjoy the sun with this years Luau Theme! There will be a raffle that will end on Saturday night, with all proceeds going into a non-profit fund (Help, Hope, Live. formerly NTAF) set up in Jeff Harris’ name to help offset continuing medical costs. Donations raised from this event over the last 5 years has afforded Jeff to be able to purchase a wheelchair van, a sports wheelchair, supplement his aide assistance and many other related items that he requires but are not covered by health care insurance.
Stop in Friday or Saturday, say hello, socialize, try your luck and enjoy this years Luau Theme. We will have food and drink over the course of the weekend for a small price. If you are feeling adventurous and would like to try curling, Saturday March 10 from 6pm on there will be open curling for all to try for a small fee/donation.
To others in a wheelchair, Philadelphia CC is NOT currently accessible and does NOT have an accessible bathroom. However, please do not let this discourage you, we have plenty of people to help you bump up and down a few small stairs. And if your interested in getting out on the ice in your chair, we can make that happen too.
