What is a bonspiel? They are scheduled tournaments lasting three or four days, consisting of as many teams as can be accommodated. Some are for club members only. The larger ones are open to participation by players and teams from other clubs. Bonspiels are designated as Mens, Womens, Mixed (two men and two women), or Open (any combination). They are great fun and an opportunity to meet lots of other curlers.
Philadelphia Curling Club hosts several different bonspiels:
Harvest: A long-standing tradition, this classic mixed bonspiel is always held on the weekend before Thanksgiving.
Cracked Bell: Our newest ’spiel, an open format event the second week of January.
Junior: An open event for curlers under 21 that takes place in early December.
Mid-Atlantic: An friendly bonspiel for women that takes place in early October.
MACA Friendlies: A series of events with other area clubs from Plainfield (NJ), Potomac (DC) and Chesapeake (MD).
In-House Events: For club members only.
